Planting a project for Aguas Andinas in Fundo El Rutal, comuna de Til Til Chili
The planting is done in January 2012 in the middle of their Summer
This is the size of the plants January 2012
Fourty Groasis waterboxxes with Espina trees (Acacia caven) are planted
This soil is sensible for collapsing after receiving water
Therefore sometimes the soil and the box do not connect causing the wick to dry out
There is a control group of one year old watered two weekly
Because of the collapsing the soil shrinks causing secundary roots to break
This is the size of the trees planted with the waterboxx 8 weeks after planting a growth in length of 5 cm per week
Survey March 2012 protection against animals with chicken wire
The plants have grown approximately 40 cm in 8 weeks
A test to protect against animals with cola bottles
We prune the plants to one straight stem
Two pruned trees of each 40 cm after 8 weeks
We start a trial to protect against animals with a plastic cover instead of chicken wire this is much cheaper
We make some openings to create ventilation
We put the sleeve around the first tree
We put a sleeve around the second tree
We put a stick in the middle
Then the covers are connected with wire
Final result of animal protection for a cost price of 1 cent per cover
Ms. Annika Schuettler measures the weekly growth rate
She uses the same pen every week as a comparison
